Instead of asking the Faire to help rebuild the Fire Department, Ron Tamborino and the Trustees sued the Faire for the right to operate the beer program at an establishment they think should not exist.Īmazing the people there still vote this guy into office. Ron Tamborino wants the rights to the beer money, the Pub buildings, and everything else involved with beer at GLMF.

The Trustees feel that because the Faire allowed the Fire Department to operate out of their pubs, that these pubs belong to the township. When Tamborino forced the Fire and Ambulance Department to go bankrupt as a result of frivolous lawsuits, the Township agreed to absorb all of their assets, and all of their debts. People in this Township have died as a result. Now, Trumbull Township has a significantly smaller Fire Department and no Ambulance service. It was the enormous egos, built up by Ron Tamborino's personal vendetta, that caused the Fire Department to go bankrupt. Despite this aggression, the Faire continued to supplement the Township with the best Fire and Ambulance Department in Ashtabula County with no tax increase. It has been made abundantly clear that certain members of the Township are against the Faire. Tamborino then turned his attention on destroying the Fire Department that the Faire helped to build. The Trustees took their case to the Supreme Court, and a ruling is still forthcoming. Twenty-one days after winning the rights to resume Halloween Knights, and to gain back many other rights that were suspended by this long going battle, the Faire was back in court, and again, won in appeals. The Faire was forced to not hold the annual Halloween show, they were not permitted to allow on-site camping, and not permitted to house their own employees, many of who travel some distance. The Faire had to spend ten years waiting on a ruling, and lost out on over ten years of income and convenience.

These suits sat in Trial Court for over ten years.

Theses cases were then sent to the Supreme Court, but were turned down. After our Trial Court victories, and with several trips to Appeals Court, they again ruled in favor of the Faire. The Faire fights for it's right to exist.Īll of these suits went to court, and, in the end, a 100% victory on all accounts was in favor of the Faire. If any REAL issues are brought up the Faire owners do whatever they can to address them to keep the neighbors happy. I've been attending this event since the first year it first opened. I know this event doesn't tickle everyones fancy, but the actions of the local government are unbelievable. In other words they want MORE than just the 'profit', and feel that no-one other than the township should receive any of those profits.įaire funding Legal fees heavy but Medieval event returns to Trumbull This year they managed to get an injunction against the faire to prevent beer sales (the profits from which are donated to charity) The Township wants ALL the proceeds from the beer sales, and they also want service and supply costs donated as well. Township trustees claim to be protecting the residents form a bunch of wierdos

Ohio law also pre-empts the need for such a license if the event is on private property, but that doesn't stop the township trustees. If I already have an OHIO vendors license for a much lower cost, this one seems punitive.

Last year it was the transient vendors license at a cost of $150.00 per vendor to be open for 12 days of the faire. Kinda makes me sick to think that the govt which is supposed to be a regulator and encourage business and growth can be used in such a manner even on the small local scale. this is a 6 week event that is open only on the weekends, so a Whopping 12 days out of the year, but it brings thousands of people into Trumbull Township. It amazes me that local politicians and local government spend so much time trying to put people out of business. They have racked up hundreds of Thousands of dollars in legal fees fighting to keep the faire open and operating. There seems to be a personal vendetta started by a local councilman against the Faire and it's owners. The Great Lakes Medieval Faire is held every year a few miles from my house.
